Instead of attaching a conventional loop handle, the sculpt runs the animal's head and neck out from the body of the cup and turns that curve into the grip. That means the handle is modelled in three dimensions and has to be balanced as a sculpture and as a working handle at once — the animal's features stay legible while the hand still has somewhere sensible to sit.
